GETTING TO AND FROM THE MELBOURNE BIG DAY OUT

Tuesday 26 January-Flemington Racecourse
 

The best way to get to Big Day Out is by public transport! Extra trains and trams have been scheduled to make sure you and your mates can travel to and from Flemington Racecourse easily and safely. Don't forget you'll need a valid Metcard to travel to the event.

TRAIN     
Trains will operate to a Saturday timetable, without the late night services.

Additional train services will operate to cater for the increased passenger demand at the Big Day Out event.

Special trains will leave from Flinders Street Station (platform 8 and 9) from 9.30am. Trains will stop at Southern Cross and North Melbourne stations and then run express to Flemington Racecourse. Trains stop at the same stations to get you home.

The following services will operate between the City and Flemington.

From the City to Flemington
From 09:30am to 11: 20am every 8 minutes
From 11:20am to 1:30pm every 10 minutes
From 1:30pm to 2.00pm every 15 minutes

From Flemington to City
From 1:50pm to 2:20pm every 15 minutes
From 2:20pm to 8.00pm every 20 minutes
From 8.00pm to 10:10pm every 10 minutes
From 10:10pm to 11: 35pm every 5 minutes

Last trains to Flinders Street depart at 11.35pm.

TRAM
Trams will operate to a Saturday timetable with additional tram services operating to and from the racecourse.

Extra Route 56 trams will run from the corner of Flinders and Elizabeth streets (tram stop 1) to Flemington Racecourse on Epsom Road (tram stop 29). Passengers can also take Route 57 trams to and from the event.

Last trams to the city depart at approx 11.33pm.

BUS
Bus Route 572 runs every 20 minutes during the day from Williamstown to Moonee Ponds and stops at Flemington Racecourse.  In the evening bus Route 572 runs every 40 minutes.  To check bus timetables and route maps visit metlinkmelbourne.com.au or call 131 638.

V/Line trains and coaches        

For music lovers coming to Melbourne from regional areas V/Line trains will run to a Saturday timetable and V/Line coaches will run to a special holiday timetable. Visit viclink.com.au or call 136 196 for service information.

Parent drop off/pick up
There are two designated drop off areas with access via the Main Entrance. One located along Langs Road and the other located on Epsom Road (west side), past Wisewould Street. Please note that no U turns will be allowed along Epsom Road and both Duncan and Wisewould Streets will be closed to traffic during the event.

Please note that post event, pick up will not be possible on Epsom Road as this will be closed to traffic. The pick up areas will be on Langs Road and on the city side of Racecourse Road.

Parking
There is limited car parking available in the vicinity of Big Day Out and it is advisable to use public transport where possible. All of the local streets will be designated as "Permit Zone" only on the day of the event and parking restrictions will be heavily enforced so don't risk getting a fine.

If you must drive, provisions have been made at the Showgrounds for public parking but spaces are limited and the cost will be $10 per car. Entry to the Showgrounds car park is via Langs Road. Entry to the Big Day Out is via the Showgrounds tunnel.

Wheelchair access
All Epsom Rd and Railway Gates are accessible.

Big Day Out goers arriving by:
Train – make your way down Hill Road and enter via Railway Gate
Tram - enter via Epsom Road gate

Accessible car parking available within Melbourne Showgrounds RASV car park, once parked travel through Showgrounds tunnel and into site via Railway Entrance.
