In the lead up to BIG DAY OUT 2010 we here at BDO blog HQ have caught up with some of the bands and performers to get the scoop on what audiences can expect and what features on their back stage rider- you know the tough questions. HA!
Today we speak to THE TEMPER TRAP’s bassist Johnny Aherne who talks pre gig jitters and MUSE!

What can Big Day Out audiences expect from your performance on stage?
Whenever there’s a bit a room to shake a tale feather on stage, The Temper Trap are normally up for it. I know we’re all going to be especially pumped for these shows, as we’re finally back home. And we’re also pumped for Auckland. We have a Kiwi in our band [5th member] and he's amped for the shows. He used to be on Shortland Street so he’s already famous there!
Pre gig ritual? What do you do 5 minutes before walking on stage?
There’s usually a bunch of loud sighs and comments like, "I just wanna go onstage already". It can feel like you’re waiting for your appointment at the doctor’s office. Time stands still, there’s a little huddle and then we go on.
A must have on your rider?
Socks but we never get them. You can never have enough socks.
What makes for a good audience?
Interaction is good, you can tell if a crowd wants you to be good or if they just want you to please them. But I always try to put all preconceptions aside and just take a show for what it is.
What is your favourite BDO memory?
My favorite memory is seeing the Flaming Lips. Most definitely, it was magical. 100’s of blow up balls floating around an amazing set. I just enjoyed the creativity in all its glory, an amazing show.
Complete this sentence. “You must circle (Muse) on the line up schedule because ……… they’re selling out stadiums all around the globe and the reason they are is because they have got one of the most amazing live shows hands down. Check them out"
Speaking of checking out. Have a look here at THE TEMPER TRAP performing their hit song 'Sweet Disposition' on US TV program Jimmy Kimmel Live.
