Clean & Green - What Can You Do?

remember to REDUCE, RECYCLE and OFFSET

Enrol to VOTE http://www.aec.gov.au/Enrolling_to_vote/ and vote for the best environmental policy. remember that once the election is called, under new legislation there will only be 24 hours from the time of the calling of the election within which you will be allowed to register yourself. after that, those who have not registered to vote will be ineligible to vote in this election!!!

  1. Use less power.
Change all your light fittings to efficient bulbs, dont waste electricity you dont need, and source your electricity from a zero emission supplier (electricity generation from coal fired power plants is one of the worst contributors to greenhouse emissions). it only takes a minute and a couple of extra dollars a week. Here are some of the power suppliers that provide this service:

  2. Cut down on your car use.
Get a smaller car, a hybrid, an electric scooter or ride a bike, use public transport, start a car pool. you will be amazed how much less you really need that tonne of unmanouverable metal after a couple of weeks! in any case petroleum is about to get a whole lot more expensive! Make a pact with yourself to reduce the amount of petrol you use by 1 tank a month perhaps.

  3. Talk it up.
Write to your local, state and federal government, and tell them you are not happy with their inadequate response to this enormous challenge. we need proactive leadership at this time of crisis not pussyfooted lame arsed politicians. tell them their days are numbered if they dont take immediate measures to enact legislation that will compel all individuals organisations and businesses to reduce their emissions drastically. ask businesses, individuals, and organisations what steps they are taking in the war against warming. write letters to the newpapers. dont doubt the effectiveness of writing letters, people do take notice, especially those in power take a lot of notice!!!

  4. Buy less shit.
All that useless consumer crap we buy only adds to the problem as most industrial products produce more pollution and gas and ends up next year or the year after in the garage or in the bin, or it breaks or it gets worn once and then youre over it anyway!!! buy quality stuff and only buy what you really need!!

  5. Compost all organic waste...
either by starting a worm farm or a compost heap; anything organic turns into methane once it gets into landfill, where it decomposes anaerobically. methane is absolutely lethal as it is 27 times more dangerous as a greenhouse gas than CO2.

  6. Support...
a local, national and global environment group with their global warming campaigns. Australian Conservation Foundation http://www.acfonline.org.au

  7. Offset your own personal emissions...
there are a number of ways you can do this, put simply, you can calculate your own emissions and pay the equivalent value towards tree planting or renewable energy which will then offset your emissions.. this should be done only AFTER you have done as much as you can to REDUCE your personal emissions footprint.

We recommend these offset providers, they have good calculators, the are reputable and they provide quality offset products:

Or you can calculate your own emissions and put the equivalent value into saving virgin rain forest initiatives http://www.avoideddeforestation.com/...
